Classification: Full-time employment; exempt from overtime

Reports To: Michelle Richard, Vice President

Summary: The senior consultant is responsible for researching, analyzing, and writing reports and strategy documents related to local, state, and national policy issues; planning and facilitating work groups; selling and managing projects, and more.

Essential Duties

  • Conduct, translate, and analyze public policy research, primarily in content areas related to early childhood policy, K–12 education, higher education, and talent
  • Plan and facilitate workgroup group meetings, focus groups, and project events
  • Resolves differences of opinion and forges consensus in and outside of meeting rooms, in formal and informal conversations with clients, and in written reports and materials
  • Cultivates relationships and works with leaders in policy, programs, and regulation (government-regulated entities, legislature, advocacy organizations, businesses, etc.)
  • Cultivate new business by identifying project opportunities and prospective clients, meeting with prospects and clients, and writing proposals
  • Manage multiple large and complex projects concurrently, including directing and managing the scope of work, collaborating with team members to complete project tasks, supervising staff and subcontractors within and across projects, completing deliverables, managing client expectations—resulting in high-quality project deliverables completed on time and on budget
  • Is a key and valuable contributor to products produced for prospective and current clients, including writing major sections of proposals for large projects or entire proposals for small- and midrange projects; conducting analysis; and writing major sections of project deliverables
  • Plays a key role in maintaining a good relationship with the client and ensuring a high level of satisfaction

  • A bachelor’s degree, preferably in a field related to education or public policy/administration; a master’s degree in education or public policy/administration preferred
  • A minimum of five years of relevant work experience is required
  • Strong research and writing skills with the bility to accurately interpret data and write concisely
  • Demonstrated experience performing comparable duties
  • Knowledge of and interest in early childhood, K–12 education, higher education, and talent policies
  • Strong competency using Microsoft Office suite, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel; experience with other software (e.g., Tableau, SPSS, R, IMPLAN, REMI, etc.) is desirable but not required

Work Environment

Work is primarily performed in an indoor, environmentally controlled office setting with extended periods (approximately eight hours or more a day) at a computer, on the telephone, sitting, or standing. The nature of the work has frequent interruptions, contact with the public and clients, performance of repetitive tasks, and requires strong communication skills. While the employee may be required to work beyond normal working hours, Public Sector Consultants (PSC) strives for staff to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
