Carbon capture, utilization and storage can play a significant role in combatting climate change.
CCUS involves capturing carbon dioxide from large point sources like power generation or industrial facilities and transporting it by pipeline, ship, rail or truck to be reused or stored deep underground.
The U.S. Department of Energy estimates that investments totaling
$300-$600billion
are needed to spur the carbon capture market to meet climate CO2 reduction goals by 2050.
This includes developing a minimum of
29,000 to 66,000 miles
of CO2 pipelines across the U.S.
As of October 2022, fewer than
5,400 miles
of CO2 pipelines have been developed.
