The Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan (CFSEM) contracted Public Sector Consultants (PSC) to conduct a landscape scan of immigrant- and refugee-serving programs and nonprofit organizations in Southeast Michigan. The scan identified current funding structures as well as strengths and gaps in overall funding and services. PSC analyzed Worldwide Refugee Admissions Processing System data trends in Michigan; identified local, state, and federal funding structures for immigrant-, refugee-, and asylee-serving organizations; performed a Form 990 analysis of organizations that serve these populations in the study area; and conducted stakeholder surveys and interviews of thought leaders in the field. The report provided regional funders an understanding of the current philanthropic landscape that supports immigrants and refugees, as well as how nonprofits in the region are meeting these populations’ needs. The report’s recommendations identified opportunities for creating a sustainable infrastructure to support refugee, immigrant, and asylee communities in Southeast Michigan. The project began in June 2018 and concluded in November 2018.
