Growing Michigan Together

Michigan faces significant demographic challenges in the coming decades. Projections show that over the next 25 years, the population of those 65 and older in Michigan will grow by 30%, the population of children and young adults will shrink by 6%, and the number of working age adults will stagnate.

Governor Whitmer created the Growing Michigan Together Council to focus on actions we can take to grow our state’s population and economy. PSC supported the council in developing growth recommendations. PSC’s work included research and analysis for the four council workgroups: jobs, talent, and people; infrastructure and places; preK-12 education; and higher education. PSC’s workgroup facilitators understood the issues and enhanced the discussion leading to more relevant outcomes.

PSC held listening sessions across the state, did rapid response research to answer council questions, facilitated the council meetings, and helped guide the council to a consensus. After assembling the data, public input, and the collective wisdom of the workgroup and council, PSC developed a well-written, engaging final report detailing our state’s challenges and optimal growth strategies.

“PSC has great people, great thinkers, great analysts. They know how to engage the public and stakeholders and get things done.”
