Michigan in a New Era

We live in a dynamic period of innovation and progress, and Michigan is struggling to keep pace with other states. As a true purple state, Michigan’s policies often shift with changes in administration. PSC worked with Business Leaders for Michigan to support the creation of the policy agenda for the Michigan in a New Era (MINE) report, a nonpartisan framework designed to address priorities on which we can all agree — raising incomes, strengthening our economy and expanding opportunities for all Michiganders.

PSC’s work included research and analysis across three key pillars: transforming education, making Michigan the easiest state in which to build and grow, and activating the state’s economic potential. To inform the report, PSC conducted stakeholder interviews throughout the state. We also benchmarked Michigan’s performance and structures against those of top-performing states to identify the traits of lasting success. Finally, we collaborated with BLM to develop a blueprint to guide the next governor, legislature and their successors.

“PSC has great people, great thinkers, great analysts. They know how to engage the public and stakeholders and get things done.”
